Sleep, we all want it. We all need it. How do we get it?

Happy and healthy people of all ages need to get adequate sleep. We all know the feeling of too little sleep and it stinks. Life is filled with daily obstacles set up just to disrupt your sleep. Proper daily exercise is one part of a healthy routine that improves sleep. Nutrition is another big part of maintaining over all health and functionality. I recommend a high quality multivitamin as the foundation of good nutrition. Of course I recommend Legit’s Alkalinity Multivitamin to fill that need. Below are some suggestions if you need some help in the sleep aid department.
Avoid over the counter chemical sleep aids and go with natural sleep enhancers. Try to get on a regular sleep cycle and if supplements are needed start with a low dose of melatonin (try 2 to 5 grams). Remember this… melatonin is a hormone that your brain produces in response to darkness. It helps with the timing of your circadian rhythms (24-hour internal clock) and with sleep. Being exposed to light at night can block melatonin production, so eliminate screens and lights after taking melatonin to get the results you need. Ultimately shoot for at least 7 hours of sleep a night with at least 2 of those hours happening before midnight. Get on and stay on a steady sleep cycle with the same bedtime each night is key.
Another great sleep aid is GABA. As an inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA blocks or inhibits certain nerve transmission. It decreases the stimulation of neurons. This means that a neuron that receives a message along the way doesn’t act on it, so the message isn’t sent on to other neurons. This slow down in message transition may be helpful in modulating mood and anxiety. In other words, GABA calms your nervous system down, helping you to not become overly anxious or afraid. In doses around 500mg it acts as a sleep aid. It can cause extremely vivid dreams. If you are prone to nightmares it may not be right for you. You will get a solid, high quality 6 to 8 hours of sleep with GABA and will not wake feeling groggy or hungover.
Get some exercise during the day, take some melatonin or GABA and go to sleep in a dark, quiet room. Let your mind drift to and through happy memories and times with those you love… BAM, you’re sleeping like a baby!
